A must-have course for everyone! The computer technology we all depend on has become incomprehensible and intimidating to nearly everyone—young and old, new and experienced. As strange at it seems, few people learn to use computers in a formal way and instead learn to do things with computers without understanding anything about computers. This is why many become good at word processing, accounting and countless other tasks but never feel comfortable with the most basic functions like file management and e-mail attachments. Add to that connecting to the Internet, cell phones, digital cameras and flash drives (to name a few) and it’s easy to lose sight of the fact that everything we do with computers is based on the same simple basic principles and concepts that are not obvious. Learn how easily you can become comfortable, confident and self-sufficient with your computer and related technology! Learn what you need to manage your computer system, avoid and solve problems, reduce dependence on others, communicate effectively and put those who have been intimidating you in their place! Visit www.computerliteracyusa.com for more on these issues and to find out why tens of thousands of people have taken Computer Orientation.

You want to create a website–putting up a cookie-cutter site using host-provided wizards looks easy, but with few options for making the site your own. Designing a web "page" is one thing. Creating a web "site" is another. A web site lives or dies on its appearance, ease of use and speed--at least as far as how it is perceived by your intended audience. Before you begin writing your web pages you must develop the overall design, organization, navigational scheme and style of the site. Learn from a pro the importance of style, size, speed, layout and organization of your pages and graphics considerations such as formats, size, color reproducibility and popular graphics software. NOTE: Knowledge of the Internet and experience creating and implementing HTML files is strongly recommended.

HTML (hypertext markup language) defines the structure of a document, the organization of text and images and other individual elements (via tags). CSS (Cascading Style Sheets) defines how these elements are displayed in terms of typography, color, spacing, and so on. Cascading Style Sheets are a vastly useful tool that gives the web author more control over the appearance of a web site, and improve efficiency for both the web browser and the web site designer. This class is an introduction to the basics of CSS, including Inline, Embedded and Linked Styles. Online resources will be referenced. Prior working knowledge of HTML or completion of both Basic Web Authoring and Web Authoring II is required.
